September Garden of the Month: A Wonderland in Fern Valley
September 1 @ 8:00 am - September 30 @ 5:00 pm

Some gardens announce themselves with dramatic curb appeal. Others invite you to wander a winding path, revealing hidden treasures with every turn. Dennis’ Fern Valley garden at 55055 Daryll Rd. does both.
From the moment you enter, whimsical spaces and unexpected levels invite you deeper into the garden. Around every corner, there is something new to discover—a planting, a tucked-away covered seating areas, recycled & repurposed materials or a courtyard for a fabulous brunch. And in this garden, the very best is saved for last. You may even want to bring along a book to stretch out and stay awhile.
Dennis has been gardening for decades, cultivating not only a beautiful mountain garden but also a collection of plants filled with family memories. Among his treasures is Oxalis, brought from Dublin, Ireland, and Ajuga (bugleweed), which came from his great-aunt’s home in Canoga Park in 1979.
The garden is also home to Pink Flowering Almond, Mountain Currant, Cedrus deodara (California Christmas Tree), Silver Dollar Plant, Hostas, colorful Geraniums, Peonies, and much more. Together, these plants create a garden that feels less like a collection of plantings and more like a living scrapbook of Dennis’ life and family history.
Dennis invites you to stroll through his garden during daylight hours throughout the month of September. Come prepared to wander, explore, and discover what waits around the next corner—and be sure to save some time to savor the final surprise.
