ABOUT US
Since 1956
We serve the beautiful mountain community of Idyllwild and the surrounding areas. Our club offers programs, meetings, classes, and events to help new and experienced gardeners with our area's unique gardening challenges. We have cooler summers and a snowy wonderland in the winter, providing opportunities and obstacles for gardening. Please browse our site for information, pictures, and details about our meetings, presentations, and events. We also partner with the Idyllwild Community Garden, which offers gardening classes. Join us to learn more about the bounty of our earth!
Whether you are a seasoned or new gardener, the Idyllwild Garden Club has events and resources to fit your interests. You're welcome to attend your first event as a guest, and we hope you leave as a new friend.
What the Garden Club does
The Idyllwild Garden Club was founded in 1956 and currently has 112 members. We hold member meetings on the first Wednesday from April through November and a December holiday celebration. We focus on guest speakers discussing topics related to mountain gardening and the environment. Our Board of Directors meets monthly and is open to members.
The club is active in maintaining the grounds of the Historical Society Museum. It has an after-school program for students called Junior Gardening, teaching them about planning, planting, and enjoying gardens. We also maintain a native garden around the pond at the bird viewing deck at the Nature Center.
The objective of the Idyllwild Garden Club shall be the beautification of Idyllwild, advancement in gardening, support of the protection and conservation of native plants species, education and research of plant materials, upkeep of any IGC gardens, and optional participation in community cultural pursuits
We plan several public events each year when possible. Traditionally, these occasions may include a Spring Mountain Garden Tour and a Fall Discover Mountain Gardening event with displays, native plant sales, bulb sales, and programs with speakers focused on mountain gardening.
Our members love to join in with numerous opportunities to participate, help, and volunteer at our meetings and events or serve on the board. With this significant membership size, many hands help make light work!
